You and I are getting spoofed.

I am writing this as my driver is plowing through dense mud in central Africa.

Please bear with me. Twice today I got emails from trusted commenters complaining that I had accused them of spamming me. Not only did I not do that, my comment was aimed at what was apparently a fake profile. I am trying to erase anything associated with this as best I can but am out in the middle of nowhere.

This is not coming from me, and our profiles are being spoofed. Please be warned.

This kind of spoofing is over my pay grade. Clearly it was my error to bark at them, as that comment is now being directed at people who have trusted me. For that, as I have expressed to them, I am sorry. However this is apparently touching all of us.

From here on out just report, block delete, for apparently these hackers have found ways to hijack legitimate profiles to pitch Bitcoin, and if you’re dumb enough to bark at them like I did, someone perfectly innocent gets hurt.

To that again, I offer heartfelt apologies to those people who received an angry message not intended for them at all. I also have been accused of spamming, so this apparently is the online version of what’s happening with our phones.

As soon as I get back to camp tonight, assuming internet access, I will lodge a report. Last time Medium said they were “on it.”

Um, no. They aren’t. It’s gotten far worse.

The photo is from last night’s drive, one of four bachelor cheetahs hunting at dusk. Stay tuned.
