Yes and no, Shirley. It depends, as do all things. IF you train, IF you work out, IF you exercise and IF you are willing to reduce what you carry, this can be largely effortless. I will be 70 in January, am an international adventure traveler, and it has everything to do with fitness. Don't train, of course it will be hard. I respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree with your comment because it is based solely on age and your experience. While completely valid for you, no question, that does not mean it is valid for anyone else. When you do the work, life gets easier, which is why I am off to the gy, right now, my fiftieth year of doing precisely that. I plan to climb Kilimanjaro again next year and I plan to make it to the top just like I did at sixty. Nothing's easy if you aren't willing to do the work. Didn't say it was easy to do the work, but the work gets easier if you're willing to commit to it. Just saying.
