Which means by association that we will always and forever be dissatisfied not only with ourselves and our lives, but also with anyone who comes into it. The moment that person shows up with messy hair, a cavity, a pimple, or god help us a character flaw, out they go.

It’s bad enough that decades of magazine images tell us lies; today’s airbrushed images tell us worse lies. There is always an forever the implicit promise of smoke this, you’ll be KOOL, eat this you won’t get fat, pretty people chug vodka.

We’re already insecure enough, anxious enough as it is, just showing up human. The firestorm of social media, the pervasiveness of ads (5000 a day on average) the incessant message that we aren’t good enough, thin enough, pretty enough so that we buy crap to fix what is wrong with us (when fundamentally nothing is, for the most part) is just kerosene on the fire.
