What is so heartbreaking about this short and vivid peace is that it truly underscores the tribal nature- and I use that word advisedly- of the Black experience. Why, when my Black friends read about another shooting, they are triggered. This is something most White folks don't quite understand, that feeling of shared experience. What happens to one happens to all, in that awful way that when one Black man is shot that means no Black man or child is safe. Black folks live that. We White folks don't. That is one of great fundamental privileges that we take for granted, and don't know we take for granted, and which inform our tone-deaf response to so much of the conversation. Thanks for sharing this. My god. Thirty three. Just awful.
