What I love most about this article is that you separate everyday people from the government. We also want that courtesy; when Trump was president I wore a very large button on my jacket which made my stance clear lest anyone make the wrong assumption.

I was just in Thailand, and while the government makes certain activities illegal, it does not also offer alternatives, nor does it do much to help its terribly poor people who will do whatever they think will sell to the tourists. That leads to some awful practices, many of which I saw, did my best to properly research and write articles about. Such claims could be made about any country: so many things a traveler may not agree with or which are repugnant, but that doesn't speak for the individuals we meet along the way.

We learn best what we face into wherever we are, which is another point Charlie makes so well. Travel exposes us to a great many things which might be terribly uncomfortable. That is the education. Wisdom is not supporting those practices which are clearly evil, do harm, damage or cause pain to people, animals or the planet. That is up to us to research, and then choose wisely.
