What came up for me reading this was how the dating app is based on the same model as Weight Watchers (and a whole lot of others). To wit: they ONLY succeed if we fail, and they only make money if we're losing. The cards are stacked with the house. There is no fucking way any of these businesses want us healthy, happy, delighted with being single, fit in our own bodies AS WE ARE, etc. Medicine fails if we're healthy, big pharma fails if we eschew most pills. I could go on. It ain't just dating, Shani. I think you could make a very legitimate case that it's the American business model that rewards failure with profits. What a fucking setup.
