Several ways to look at this, Reverie. It's one thing to read that I'm saying that I don't care about their opinions, which is a misread of what I'm saying. It's another to understand that I am calling out poor behavior. There are several things weighing on me, an observation with which I agree entirely. The onslaught of ugliness these past several weeks has grown to a hurricane. Another top author shared with me that she's seeing the same thing. She just came back from an aunti vacation and so did yet another top author on anti-racism. If you look less at what an individual writer is saying and at how several of us are experiencing this (I'm not asking you to, I'm doing the observing here) there is a social move happening. I care about the sickness that is driving such behavior. Their opinions about me personally don't matter. That is true. What perhaps troubles me far more is the overwhelming ugliness of such a large part of society that so many people feel such a need to paint their pain on people they don't know. That's very different, and is more what I'm addressing here. You may not read it that way, which is your perfect right. But to read those articles as saying simply that they don't matter and I don't care is an overly simplistic read, and a misread. Everyone matters or nobody matters, and when a good half of our society is sick enough to be in complete and utter denial of things like Covid and the election and the shape of the earth and climate change, and the undeniable facts force them to face otherwise, and their response is to attack anyone whose POV doesn't support theirs, that is a statement of where we are as a county, a society, a world. This is much larger than just about me. You are welcome to interpret my work any way you choose, but the trends are unfortunate. The material I write has many, many layers. Not everyone gets some of the more subtle aspects of it, and all of us read others' articles through our own personal filters, myself included of course. I appreciate your observation. for as with any comment that doesn't seek to harm I am happy to consider the points. I did. Made me think and that's a gift.
