Truth, Zita, most of us have no idea what forever means yet. Which is fine, and which is in no way any kind of indictment of you or anyone else. As one of the perhaps 1%-5% who lost 85 lbs 34 years ago and kept it off, all I can tell you is that this a forever second to second awareness. Some of it becomes habit. You eventually learn to see yourself in your new body. AND it is daunting. Your body changes over time, every decade you change more, as you age you might find that your body cannot tolerate certain foods, blah blah blah. This is a forever negotiation. It. Never. Ends. Not EVER. That is precisely why only about 1% of us make it long term. Reaching your number, when you look back, you understand that the loss is the easiest part. Then the real work begins. I wish you godspeed, good luck and good journey, and do NOT attend the trolls who bark at your aching honesty about how you’ve had to navigate this (see fat-shaming comment below, wholly inappropriate and absolutely WRONG, uncalled for and having nothing whatsoever to do with your journey but only her own self hatred). It’s daunting. But loving your body in all its interations is even more daunting especially with so many so quick to poke pins in your bubble. For my part Zita, all I can do is say enjoy the journey, be patient, and sprinkle it with a lot of laughter. That will make all the difference.
