To wit, at 66, kiddo, I’m with you. I immerse myself in breathtaking moments all over the world. Preferably without tourists. A few years back I was kayaking to see Wright whiles in SA and shared my two seater kayak with a rank rookie. When we saw whales breaching, she missed the whole goddamned thing putzing with her stupid camera. Missed. Everything. I didn’t. And she was pissed I didn’t help her unload her non-waterproof, expensive camera. On the ocean. I do not empower stupidity. Why, I must ask, does anyone take a huge tripod on an ocean kayak? Answer: stupid. Not my problem she didn’t see it, didn’t get the shot. Perhaps she learned something. Perhaps not. She pouted the whole trip. I just paddled, watched, and learned, and have a week’s worth of unbelievable memories. I don’t need a photo to bring back the sight and sound of an enormous whale breaching nearby. But then, that’s just me.
