This piece pisses me off royally for one reason only, you’re so fucking spot on.

In May of 1976 this movie rewrote life for me as a sexually-abused military woman. Those of us old enough to have had Ripley define our generation-coming-up, to have given us a flawed, competent, pissed off heroine have also come to see that the very fact of her existence is seen as an insult to the Far Right and all its enablers. We single, potent, powerful, pissed off and very competent females scare the holy shit out of them.

As in, GET AWAY FROM HER, YOU BITCH.

What a terrific piece of writing, Sady. How true, how sadly true, and how badly we all need to find the same kind of resilience, power,determination and sheer grit that Ripley has within each of us. Alien is alive, well, in the White House and just as much an infection as it ever was.
