This one is so hard for folks. It's not just a race issue. This an emotional maturity issue. When someone is in pain, our job is to give them the sacred space to BE in that pain. It's insulting as hell to tut-tut, there-there a Black person triggered by news of another bleeding Black body lying in the street. Real emotional work is courageous enough to stand with, stand by and be witness to that kind of pain, even if some of the sharp darts that are being thrown hit us and draw blood. Allyship involves pain. It's inconvenient. It's sometimes deeply painful. But it is NOT always and forever about memememememememe. It's about us.
