This is the supreme price of an education. The more we travel, the more we learn, the more we evolve, the less we have in common with what we have left behind. We can see this as the gift it is, or as a loss. And its, to a degree, a loss- of innocence, of ignorance, of a certain vulnerability. We need to mourn those things as a proper rite of passage, Tom. The next phase, what you do with what you now see, understand and those stories that are part of your living novel, is up to you. These things don’t make us better than or superior. Just different. We pay for our perspectives, Tom, and at times the price can be high. The way you see now is priceless. It’s how we grow. And in growth we lose something. But what we gain is ever so much more valuable.
