This brings to mind the Israel-Palestine conflict. As long as both sides are utterly intolerant of and hateful towards the other there is no solution. Hence, war. Hence, "militant." Where one side which has more power is intent upon suppressing the other and not only NOT giving ground by taking up more and more and MORE ground, you see the progression. Eventually there is no more ground to establish common ground upon. You see my point.
