There was a bit of an exchange yesterday- and I'm embarrassed I can't recall how it started- on Twitter which spoke to how just because I have a Black friend (holds out photo for proof) that does NOT inoculate you against racism. What it does do is speak to how badly I, as the photo holder, am in terrible denial of the fact that I need to trot out my One Black Friend as proof, rather than say look I got shit in my bucket, and maybe I need to stop spritzing perfume on it. We all got shit in our buckets. God DAMN it, Shamontiel, this is so fucking exhausting. I really appreciate your point about you did not trot out your experience when the Asian woman was attacked. Honestly, we are a nation of toddlers. MEMEMEMEMEME. Can I quote you? Absolutely. No. One. Gives. A Shit.
