There is, to this, a terrible reality that in the argument about Black lives needing to matter, that Black women’s lives, and most particularly very young Black girls lives, matter even less. There are some fifty to sixty thousand missing Black women and girls in America. Yet when those girls were whisked away in Africa? Nations screamed.
Not much being said about the disappearance of a small city’s worth of Black women and girls. It’s an epidemic that nobody seems to want to talk about. One of our Medium peeps, a Black woman, wrote about Breonna. While her name is being included, the fact that you have to shout it out, and those of other Black women, to be in included simply, for me, underscores how the world, not just our nation, feels about Black women.
