The other piece you might be missing is the Millennial couple who can work remotely, who has two big incomes from one of the Big Techs, who moves to a rural mining town (or the like) and snaps up several houses and flips them for their friends. We handily forget, in our overheated and ignorant eagerness to place blame on one single generation because it's lazy and easy, that anyone with money can be greedy, and any and all generations have folks who will take advantage where they can and damn the consequences. The above was a story I heard on NPR, didn't make it up. And it's widespread. The folks in tiny rural communities, INCLUDING BOOMERS, are being priced out of their own homes and markets. Let's stop being so irresponsible about blaming only ONE generation, and recognize that greed is never limited by age or color or culture. Greed is greed. All we have to do is look at Big Tech for our examples. Every generation has its robber barons determined to get theirs. That includes, Millennials, Gen Z when it's their turn and all who come thereafter. The ways they do it will be different perhaps than housing, but you can bet they will take advantage. I know too many Boomers in serious financial trouble for all the reasons you list here. The broad brush of ALL Boomers is just simplistic. We can do better. It's much more complex and nuanced. That's what's ridiculous. We need to do a lot more together to work with this. As for just moving in on a Boomer? PUHLEEZE. My aged Boomer neighbor just had her daughter move in, and she is already terribly burdened with a husband with Alzheimer's. That is a huge additional burden on that 74 yo woman who has enough on her plate already. We utterly disregard those kinds of details when we blather about ALL BOOMERS. When we make these kinds of unfair assumptions we insult everyone, including ourselves. When we don't rein in the oligarchy instead of slavering over them, and we do, we let them run roughshod over all of us.
