The awful inability of White folks to not see this, not have empathy for it and utterly disregard the truth of it (see below) is part of why it is so DAMNED hard to create change and understanding. My Black friend south of me here in Colorado has a tall, 28 yo son who walks everywhere. The words "be careful" have infiltrated gentrifying neighborhoods. I get precisely what you are saying here, and why, and the importance of it. Thanks for your truth. I hate to say this, but please...be careful out there.
