Your Twain quote is so good I may nick it for another story! It’s very much the case when we look at the sugar debate, the cholesterol debate, any political debate indeed. One of our challenges is that while we are all screaming and yelling at each other- or distracted by our cell phones and television mini series- our wilderness and our waters are being sold out from under our feet. Distraction is a massively effective political tool. One of my favorite George Carlin riffs is when he discusses how those in power get us arguing about what makes us different (religion, race, wealth, you name it). While we’re fighting and going to war, the top 1% is going to the bank with our money. No truer words.
