Thanks, Melodie. I am not sure how I could be much more explicit than in this paragraph from the article:

If you write a piece that causes me discomfort in some way, or it’s difficult to read, it is MY job as Dear Reader to hold that information lightly and consider it. Actually give it some bandwidth. If it’s highly offensive, then I don’t read it. Read someone else. GTFU. As if a troll’s attacks are going to change what we think or say. Just, please. Nothing that I write in the comment thread about an article that I find offensive is going to change that person. That I even bother to pen an ugly response simply speaks to my desperate need to control others who don’t support my point of view.

I read stuff I disagree with all the time. I have written umpteen articles about this very thing. At no point in my entire writing career on Medium have I ever stated or implied or suggested in any way, shape or form that we should only read what we agree with; in fact just the opposite. I honestly do not know how I could have possibly made this point more succinct.

I appreciate that you took the time to comment. We agree. I guess I struggle to understand a but how this paragraph could have been perceived otherwise, but there we go. It happens.
