It is the very nature of a cult member to deny any and all proof that what they believe is bullshit. It is in our nature, for it speaks to how powerfully we identify with something or someone, and give up all our power to it. If it is proven to be the Wee Wizard of Oz, then when that loses its power, so do we.

Understanding the nature of such identification doesn’t change it, but it sure helps others understand the why.
