Roslyn, I read you often because I find you have an even- handed way of dealing with this kind of thing. First, you did. Second. I am not even going to bother to read the comments, I didn't watch the TikTok. I do write about these things as a nearly 70 year old lifetime single, who does NOT have anyone to "take care of me." That in effect is a fool's errand, as too many women who are getting ill late in life find out that their hubby's "for better or for worse" got rapidly erased when the bill came due, and now they have to go it alone or like this woman, depend on mom or family. I have neither of those either. Perhaps where I am with this is that first, I tend to agree that airing such vulnerable moments isn't wise. We're asking thoughtless trolls to take out their self-hate and revulsion on us. That said, she did. What folks said, and here's the real piece, has nothing whatsoever to do with her. Never does. The shite we hurl at others is only what we are hurling at ourselves, and that of course goes for this writer. Finally, I LOVE being single. I LOVE it. It is not for everyone. I have a raft of friends all over the world, am currently wrapping a month in Thailand, and planning to become an expat if all goes as planned.Who knows? But that's all up to me. If we believe the fantasy that some prince charming is going to marry us and fix all our woes we deserve the woes we get. Do I feel for her? Sure I do. Do I agree with her? Hell no. But does that make her wrong and me right? hell no again. I do think that a serious investment in very good friends would be in her favor, and turn the damn TikTok off. But my opinion is like all of them: meaningless. We need each other in such private moments. I;ve had them, too, but I invested in the one thing that has largely kept me out of the looney bin (although some would disagree): deep friends, truth tellers, people who love me enough to call me on my bullsnit. I have those. Chumming social media for comfort is like chumming off Dyer's Island, South Africa, with fresh liver. You get Great White sharks. Try it. I've done it. Sharks bite. They did here. Why on earth would we set ourselves up for that kind of treatment? I don't know Rosalyn. All I can do is ask the question. You did a really nice job here. Thanks.
