If there is a takeaway at the heart of Aschwanden’s book, it’s that for most of us, exercise is already intimidating and confusing enough. Instead of buying into the exercise recovery industry, Aschwanden emphasizes getting a good night’s sleep or, in lieu of that, napping. Resting and relaxing are key, as is eating well.
One only has to go to Hippocrates, the father of medicine for this basic advice. He of course has been forgotten in the predatory, profit- driven all out desire to suck the life blood (and our treasure) out of all of us. HEALTH IS SIMPLE. Eat smart. Exercise hard, well, and not to extremes. Sleep. Dear God why does it have to be so hard to learn that? I ordered this book. Going to be interesting to see if there are any other revelations- that those of us who went stupid, drank the Koolaid (my hand is up) and dropped out, only to get supremely healthy- figured out on our own. Oh, for all that money back. Flat forehead slap indeed.
