One of the great frustrations which those of us who travel have with those who don't is that when you have urban populations of folks who don't get out much and whose lives are largely dictated by what they experience in a highly -limited interaction with nature, they deny climate change because they can't see it. They don't talk to the farmers and the fisherman and the hunters whose generational relationships with the land and their environment allow them to address the reality of what's happening. They don't need science to prove it, they live it. When your world is dicated by air conditioning and heating, and you aren't dependent upon healthy fish populations or adequate ice so that you can find seals (Greenland) then everything looks hunky dory. Our ignorance is built largely on an utter disassociation with our world, and watching too many nature movies made in the last century. That earth doesn't exist any more.
