One of my new favorite movies is The Old Guard, about a group of Immortal warriors. While the first movie features Charlize Theron as the group’s leader, it introduces a young Black marine as its up and coming heroine. She clearly- should the sequels come eventually- is going to be a future leader. The movie is directed by a Black woman.

To my mind, Dr. Hines, the only way those media-driven images changes is when POC are at the helm, and in a position to write, direct and deliver content for broad consumption.
