Not what I said or meant, Ken. I was simply making an analogy anywhere someone makes a demand that others adhere to what they believe. I didn’t state or imply that this was happening in the USA or any other non-Muslim country.
If you look at this https://www.mpvusa.org/sharia-law , what I was trying to express, and may well not have done a good job of doing so, was point out that any time someone chooses a more extreme interpretation of anything and tries to impose it on others because those folks are both uncomfortable with or intolerant of what may seem to them too liberal a way to live, it’s an extreme view and not tolerant of diversity.
While yes, those countries do have legal systems steeped in antiquity, HOW those systems are being interpreted — in the same way that America’s white evangelicals are choosing to manipulate the Bible — can do extreme damage simply because one group is doing its level best to enforce their beliefs on others.
Intolerance is intolerance. I was simply making a point. Rather than leap to an assumption about my meaning, you might have simply read what I said. Nothing about America. Nothing about Muslims in America. Nor would I. I am not the author of someone else’s interpretation of my meaning, Ken, but if you assume that I have an issue with Muslims you’d be wrong just as you’d be dead wrong if you assumed I have an issue with Blacks.
I DO have an issue with intolerance when it is based on fear, and does harm. That was my point, that remains my point, and all my writing this past year in the BLM space speaks to that stance.
That said, I appreciate your points and for taking the time to respond.
