None of this surprises me, although it’s ugly as shit. Years ago before I got a full disability from the military, I had up to 25 migraines a month. My boss at the time, who was disabled from polio, allowed me to work from home as needed. This was back in the late 80s, early 90s. Way ahead of his time. I think that so much of his has to do with a combination of simple compassion and reasonable policies. I got full disability, because I simply couldn’t be depended upon to be available every day. I could get the work done, in full, quality work, but I had to do it when I didn’t have headaches. Some of that changed when certain medicines were created, it’s much better now when even better medicines are available. But part of what you’re dealing with is sheer ignorance, and brutish ignorance to boot. We’ve polluted our world, and many of us have gotten sick for all manner of reasons having to do with that pollution or in my case a history of rapes. It’s bad enough to try to negotiate terms with what ails us, then to be punished for that illness on top of everything else.
