What troubles me so much about your story is how widespread it is. Some one in four women in the United States is on an anti depressant. In most cases with rare exception they are uncalled for. There’s a terrific book by doctor-psychiatrist-holistic healer Dr. Kelly Brogan (https://kellybroganmd.com/) called A Mind of Her Own, which puts a nuclear bomb right into the heart of the scam that is Valium, Zoloft, Celexa, etcetera. She fearlessly takes on the pharma business. My BF is friends with a man who worked for big pharma, who revealed to him the tobacco industry-like strategy to get kids hooked on anti-depressants early and for life. I was on them for two decades. They nearly killed me. A year ago this month I dumped all those meds. Funny thing how I got better fast.
The medical industry (which includes big pharma) is terrified of holistic and naturopathic healers simply because they are focused on wellness. Those industries have their charlatans, too, simply because we can be ridiculously gullible and subject to fantasy thinking. However, I work with and write for a holistic healer who, like Brogan, has her MD. I trust her. I do not trust traditional doctors who, like the rest of us, are subject to their tender egotistical needs to be right, have terrible difficulty accepting a patient’s innate wisdom about their bodies, and as an industry, denies women’s, pain, symptoms and their knowledge. Women scare doctors, Nancy, to the point where the research on meds continues to focus primarily on men, because our hormonal issues and menstrual cycles are “inconvenient.” How appalling. Without those menstrual cycles and hormones those morons wouldn’t even exist. How convenient for them. Don’t get me started. Thanks for your comments.
