A myth has been created around White womanhood that they are guiltless of the White violence that has perpetuated this nation. However, the depiction of White women in Lovecraft Country subverts that myth. It places them squarely as active and willing participants in violence. In doing this, Lovecraft Country demonstrates that this massacre was a White social activity. Both shows, through imagery, place blame on the rotten orchard and do not offer it excuses for the violence.
My Medium buddy Dr. Rosenna Bakari and others have written very eloquently about the role of White women as gatekeepers for the White Supremacy. They are the second rung down. That we have done this, that we have complicity in this, is a stain on our womanhood, wherein the ONLY way we heal this earth is to link arms sister to sister. That we would stoop to such savagery is still clearly evident everywhere, from online behavior to how such women show up armed, dangerous and vicious, ready to wipe out communities in a replay of Tulsa, all in an attempt to "make America White again."
