Mr Bowman, I would have had more respect for this response if a) you had the courtesy to withhold the dripping condescension of “I hate to break it to you,” as though you are addressing an adolescent, and b)if you had bothered to read what the hell I wrote with the intention to understand instead of to criticize. How I feel about what we need to do to respect one another is clearly delineated not only in this article but all though the other 1700 pieces I’ve written here. I’m not sure if you are simply choosing not to see what is clearly laid out and explained, or if this is simply a bully pulpit you need to bang. Everything you say here I happen to agree with. However you don’t seem to see that. That isn’t my problem, sir. My issue is with your apparent need to talk down to a well-traveled, well-educated 68 yo woman who also is a decorated veteran, a prize winning author and journalist. There is nothing in this piece that states or implies that the idea of human rights is “cute.” Nor is there anything in the piece that “trifles” with the idea. What you trifle with is other people’s material by not bothering to understand it, sir, and by doing other writers a disservice by speaking to them as though they are children. All due respect, but Grow. The. Fuck. UP. Or at the very very very VERY least, do what I did: I went to your profile, scanned a few of your comments, and did you the courtesy you seem to be incapable of offering me, if not others.
