Mary, having grown up in the Deep South, and being familiar with the colloquial speech patterns (which I eventually outgrew) it was intentional. Those of us who knew that language knew what it meant. The Deep South (pre-Disney, where I came up) was an insular place, like some parts of the Northeast can be. It’s based on “deep family” if you will. Not meant to convey anything other than that.
