A goodly while back, before this most recent bonus cycle, one wag wrote in that he felt all writers deserved to be paid. Um. Really? So of course I looked at this (terrible, puerile, horrible, badly-written) shit. Of course he wanted to get paid. I remember thinking that if THAT guy got the same thing I earn after decades and decades of work, courses, writing and prizes, then I don't belong on this platform. If you cannot write stuff that people want to read, if you do not have the skills to write, if you aren't willing to put in the work to LEARN how to write, edit, improve your grammar, where does the merit come in? The mail rooms are hiring. You and I both have a slew of back stories due to our travel, and life is out there to be lived. Do the work, for crying out loud. Fairness has nothing to do with it. People read what appeals to them. If writing about turning a year's worth of nose boogers into a Confederate statue gets you eyeballs and a bonus, who cares? People wanted to read it.
