I came back to a world gone stupid after five weeks in Africa. It took me ten days to track down toilet paper. While I am FAR better prepared than most (I have a water purifier that is broadly recommended by NatGeo, I just needed specialty batteries), I have to admit that even finding basics was difficult.

Perhaps what annoys me is that with all this selfishness, the empty shelves are feeding the fears of survivalists. They are not only hoarding food, they are hoarding guns and ammo. We are making them right.

Caution? Yes. Thoughtfulness? Absolutely. But greed to the point where we reduce a desperate young mother who needs TP to tears?
