Jay, one the hardest things in the world is what you just did, and I appreciate that very much. I've had to do it at times myself and am intimately familiar with how hard it is to own our shit, especially publicly. To that I most certainly say thanks, but I would perhaps suggest that you also give yourself credit for taking that step. None of knows all there is to know to understand anyone else even after sixty years of marriage; we are always in some elemental ways strangers to each other. What is perhaps called for is to consider the effect of using certain words when we describe people in a public place, where thousands of readers potentially read our stuff. Many don't bother to consider that at all and there are days when I could be more circumspect myself. I am not privy to anyone else's journey, and half the time hardly know my own. I respect this effort and commend you for it. Just to clarify, I am actually following 39 people, and for some reason Medium has decided in its wisdom that there is a ghost list of 400 others that I can neither find nor, in finding, unfollow. Whether that changes any of my results is anyone's guess but so far nothing has shifted. I am constantly poking, prodding and trying new things. Any article we write reflects a moment in time, precisely the same way an MRI is a suggestive snapshot, but not an accurate portrayal of What Is. That is why checking in with someone before we write about them might be a good idea, if indeed we hold them in regard, and especially if we choose to take issue. We have every right to take issue. However, and I will end on this, Jay, I've had writers take me to task about somerthing I wrote three years ago. That's ancient history- just as the 3000 followers number is now ancient history. We don't know someone's reality unless we ask. That said, my reality is that I honor you and your effort and appreciate your courage in making this public.
