It's ridiculous how rare it is to find a doctor who hears you when you say, in your twenties, as I also did, that kids are a no-go. I got mine tied at 27; I found a progressive doc at a women's clinic in Boulder. It was 1980. Unheard of. Christ was I tired of being told what I think, should think, will think. I was clear at the age of FOUR that I didn't want kids. One of the sager decisions I've ever made. And there is some selfish satisfaction, as I age towards seventy, that this decision was utterly and completely spot on. But hey, we're women. How can we possibly know our own minds without a man to tell us what we REALLY think?
