You outline perfectly where Medium has failed those of us who really do write. As a prize winning author and journalist, I am in the camp which willingly paid the dues. Therefore I am disgusted and repelled by the waves of sewage-producing bottom feeders, of which there are now far too many. Since I won't stoop to such nonsense my income plummeted, costing me far more than just the light bill. However that said I will not succumb to the temptation as you state.
