Isn’t it interesting that we find ourselves competing with our children for attention in this way? It speaks to how easily manipulated we are. There isn’t a product in the world that can give us character, make us interesting, give us stories. That takes hard work. The most intriguing people I know have paid a great deal to be interesting- in years, loss, life, hard damned personal work, the willingness to be stretched and pulled by life, and the willingness to not give a shit what most folks think. My BF just moved in this afternoon (we’ve been an off and on item for eleven years, this is interesting). He’s 17 years younger than I am. He could care LESS about my wrinkles. We just sat at the dinner table and had a lively, energetic, free- ranging conversation that went from how well Tony Romo is doing as an announcer to social media to politics to religion to, well, I forget. That’s just one facet of this connection.
