Intelligence is by no means an indicator of future success. An interview of some 700 millionaires showed an average GPA of 2.9. In other words, there’s hope for many of us.
I would posit here, Tim, that EQ has a great deal more to do with it. That of course includes perseverance, self-knowledge, empathy, social skills.
“Smart” has nowhere near as much to do with it as people smarts. Social media has a bad habit of engendering inappropriate reactions which falls under the heading of self-regulation, a critically important aspect of EQ.
Much of what you discuss here are essential aspects of character. And to that, Tim, it falls right back under EQ. Collaboration, motivation, cooperation, so much of our success depends on others. That’s where our EQ and emotional maturity come in big time.
Lots of folks want lots of things really, really badly. And, they are also unwilling to do the work, develop the focus and perseverance, and pay the hard prices to get there. That’s character. Ir’s much the same thing as your focus when you hit the gym, but found your way to your right body. It’s hard damned work.
