Indeed. We have created a monster, and we have let it run us. The more I travel, the more I see people in far-flung societies walking around their city streets like zombies with their faces inches from their screens, causing cars to screech to a halt inches from their hips (this happened to me in Kazakhstan with a guide who did precisely that) the more I realize how in trouble we are. However for the 1%ers, this is PERFECT. The more addicted and distracted we are, the more easily manipulated, monetized, controlled, and directed away from what is really going on. That’s really, really handy.
