I was watching that with interest, although not like some. I saw what you saw, the teetering between two poles, and not being clear about where she wanted to make her stand. She’s damned smart- but smarts don’t make her savvy. I think one of the challenges that we have is that people who read their own press releases have filled themselves with the helium of self-adulation and forget that their shit don’t stink, one, and they also LOVE to pontificate on shit that they perhaps don’t know shit about, or not enough. The way I see it, the smartest women in the room these days are typically Black women who take themselves seriously (kindly, all communities have dimwits and idiots. I just scanned, for fun, some dustup between two women who were involved in an UGLY brawl on YouTube, between Black women who should know better but there you go, and it went down badly. Gossip column stuff descending into outright defamation) What a waste of talent and brains all in the effort to get famous and make money when there are Very Big Issues at play here. I wrote Sharon Hurley Hall the other day that I am increasingly convinced that if America makes it through these times it’s going to be on the backs of, and because of Black women. There is no question in my mind as I watch more and more Black women get their PhDs and do the work to get into government and corporations while everyone else is running their gums and their guns that this is where the revolution will have to take place.
