I was re-reading this, and stumbled over this big time. This is just so true. We want simple, we want easy. We want brag worthy washboard abs without the situps. The lat spread without the pullups. The accolades without the dedicated hard work.

I liken this to people who hire a bird to take them to the peak of a mountain and then get a shot of them striking a heroic pose, then taking same bird to the ground without losing a single bead of sweat in the process.

Assholes, in my view. And here’s why: that same attitude informs the Instagram shot seekers looking for self-validation in that perfect photo. That leads them to head into the high country in cotton t-shirts and flip flops, because they treat the local first responders like Uber. My best friend is said first responder and his stories make my hair stand on end. They want the social media attention that a perfect photo will get them but by god they don’t want to prepare properly, get the right gear and get in shape to make it happen. Which those of us who actually got those photos the first time did indeed do. Frustrating.
