I was listening to the Jim Rome sports show the other day concerning the "kerfuffle" about the interview that wasn't ever going to be an interview for Brian Flores. Kindly. You cannot have a pipeline that is 70% Black and NOT have an overwhelming flow of coaching talent. First. Second, the NFL IS Jon Gruden and Jon Gruden IS the NFL. Third. Elway, who is making noises about suing Flores, has long been known to us Denverites ( I lived there fifty years) as a likely lush. Even the police who pulled him over refused to bring him in out of fear of being the cop who busted the hometown hero- those are stories I heard for years and years. Elway is well known to drink too much, and no amount of formal denial changes his well-publicized issues with drinking. I don't know him personally but you can't be that famous and avoid scrutiny. Now he's willing to ruin a coach to protect a reputation that's long been ruined by too many rumors. GET A SPINE. Fourth, Flores, like Colin, has sacrificed his career for fairness for everyone else. People love to point at Mike Singletary who was not a good coach, but there have been plenty of others who have been, can we say the Steelers? And what about the many many MANY failed white coaches, EP? So the system is set up to enforce failure, the system is set up to limit Black coaches, so that they can be blamed. Trotting out the occasional Black face to prove DEI is performative at best and lying at its worst. Belichik got caught being an old white man texting the wrong Brian, but we are killing the messenger, as usual, insteading of addressing the fucking system. I met Dickerson once. Gracious man. I love the sport, EP, but I despise its hypocristy. Football is racist, mysoginist and brutally ignorant. Just like Grudin. But that's just me.
