I might add that one of the great Ugly Fights of the early aughts was illegal downloading of music. To say nothing of movie piracy. There’s a very good reason that there’s a GREAT HUGE NOTICE that tells us that illegal use of a movie can result in prison time and up to $250k in fines. This country protects intellectual property, as does the UK and most other Western countries. Not all. Imagine trying to make a living when you come up with an idea and the fucking STATE takes it as its own. Welcome to Cambodia. Welcome to communist countries. This is the entire point of copyright and intellectual property ownership. You have an idea,it’s YOURS. You write a book, IT’S YOURS. If you can’t own it, then kindly, what is the point? Those comments are written by people who know nothing about the law, clearly don’t produce anything of their own worth protecting, or else it might have already been stolen. Wow, how that might have changed THAT conversation. Nothing like being ripped off by another person to bring home the point.

Titles can’t be copyrighted. There can be twelve movies all with the same name out. However, I own the trademark to Wordfood, which is title of my book, because it protects a body of work: seminars, speeches, the like. It belongs to me, it’s all original work, protected by law. And I have sent my fair share of Cease and Desist letters via my copy right lawyer.

Intellectual property is a cornerstone of the free market. If you and I don’t have it, just what do you think is going to happen? Your best creative minds will go where there is a law protecting it. Which is why so many great minds want to be where such laws exist.
