I loved Braveheart and own it but in watching it, I also find the same offensiveness. If anyone actually believes it, shame on them. Both Patriot and Braveheart are embarrassingly inaccurate from historical standpoints. But hey, if you REALLY want an offensive bro bash of ridiculous manhood, here you go: the other night, out of boredom and because I was folding laundry, I started watching 300 on Netflix. Holy fucking Christ what a JOKE. WHAT A JOKE. Several minutes in I was holding my sides. For sheer comedic value, 300 is fucking priceless.
I own many Gibson movies, but I am not fooled into believing that his ability to tell a rousing story should be construed as accurate history. He admits as much himself. For example, the lovely queen Isabella would have been barely a child when Wallace was rampaging. But who bothers to check history when men are waving their itty bitty dicks in defiance, which just described today's America?
Brian Cox is an arrogant asshole of an actor but he is one hell of an actor nonetheless. I also would have loved that side story but in that, Argyle would have been the hero, not Wallace.
And as for acting, having grown up being madly in love with Patrick McGoohan as a spy, he was wonderful as Longshanks. He's much missed.
