Hey Jeff, many thanks.
I wish only to say this: suffering is not the key to enlightenment. That is one of the worst misinterpretations of Buddhist teachings and it's very widespread. Learning to look into it and find different ways of thinking about it, learning to look at its source and seeing if we can stop feeding it, that is the real path. I absolutely get that we don't share the same appetites- but I wouldn't want your life to be a burden either. Learning to live with what we are handed is indeed a spiritual journey, but if that doesn't appeal, Jeff, I can't offer much. I do know that the quest to find humor in the horrible, which is indeed in many ways a spiritual quest, has helped me enormously with the burdens I've had to carry. That doesn't make it right for anyone else. Just for me.
