Hear hear. I’ve been a student of religion and religious history for a long, long time. The more I read, the more I study, the more I look at the headlines, the more disgusted I get. Faith is a potent thing, Kerry, yet it’s my observation that many of those sorely lacking faith are those who profess to have one. It doesn’t track. Bottom line for me is you choose: every thing that happens is God’s will and we are totally helpless, or basically we have free will and we’re responsible for our actions. You can’t have both or call out whatever is convenient to make sure you’re right. For my buck, I think that whoever or what God is, She/He has a shitload more to worry about than whether Jimmy passes his math test this morning. There’s a whole Cosmos, an entire massive Universe to manage. We’re just a species living on a speck. To me anything beyond that is wild speculation. We don’t know shit. We really don’t. And that not knowing is very, very good place to me. It engenders…gasp…faith.
