Edd, I find it very funny at times that those of us who put the time in to stay healthy and vibrant can be in far better shape than those half our age. This is a sad statement about where we are as a society. I seriously doubt you’re soft in the head. What I do find when I travel is that often my much younger guides can’t keep up heading up the mountain. But youth is variously experienced, and as you and I age (as we all do) youth is conveyed so much more by our willingness to keep learning. The other piece is how well we’re willing to keep our bodies fed, nourished, and flexible as well as strong. That rewrites our story, and it serves as one heck of an inspiration. As we age it’s harder and harder to find mentors to teach us, and it becomes our job to be mentors to others. Whipping a younger man’s ass might be fun, but teaching him to age well might be even better.
