Did you hear me standing up and cheering for you at full volume, Jay?

I did another story a while back about what you refer to as money in the bank in effect- your reserves, from which you had to draw to not only survive but then thrive after aggro cancer treatment. https://medium.com/@jhubbel/whats-in-your-wallet-1829efd3e0f2

To another point of yours I had been diagnosed with osteoporosis, which I no longer have for precisely the same reasons. Aging isn’t for sissies. Or rather, aging WELL isn’t for sissies. There are realities (hair moves to unfortunate locations, eyes threaten to go dim, that kind of nonsense)however nothing but nothing beats having a high level of fitness walking into a problem. Or the surgical theater for that matter.

Here’s a piece I did on the importance of rest. I am now in full training to climb Mt. Kenya this November. While I’m still recovering from rotator cuff surgery, I find that having a big goal that far outstrips just the PT for my shoulder is hugely motivating and enormously helpful. It puts things into perspective. https://medium.com/@jhubbel/setting-a-bhag-the-importance-of-rest-and-fun-in-your-training-program-fb3ce245fc04

I loved your story. Every so often I get viciously trolled by someone who claims that genes are everything, that Nature trumps nurture, and that of course I’m an ignoramus, arrogant and full of shit. Interestingly, my long experience is that such posts come from folks who haven’t been willing to do the hard work, don’t choose to do their research, are vastly more committed to being a victim, believe everything their doctors say, and as a result are pretty unhappy. While that’s understandable, it’s a choice.

We are all dealt a shit sandwich or two , or even many of them in our lifetimes. The question is what are we going to do with the time we are given, one of my favorite lines from Gandalf, in Lord of the Rings. Indeed. Nobody owes us anything. We owe ourselves the gift of commitment to the best possible life. That you’ve done and continue to do, Jay. Nobody else can do that for us. Thanks kindly for your comments. What a great way to end the day.
