Couldn't agree more, Chowa. The inevitability of having folks leap aboard solely for the money, swift curation and the feel-good of being included on Dr. Y's list was guaranteed. The greater the diversity, the more welcoming, the more likely the Justice Warriors and those with an agenda will hop aboard.
Some years back I built an uber powerful women's group. I most specifically DID NOT open membership to everyone, but only those whom I personally vetted. I specificially chose intense, powerful women from all backgrounds, cultures, colors. What a group that was. People heard about it and lobbied hard to be included.
Nope. Because they had an agenda (to wit: multi-level marketers). I protected our space, and those women paid me back by behaving like competent caring professionals. I was sad to leave that group in other hands to return to Denver and care for my dying mother. Those "other hands" were far less careful about who got in, and the group fell apart.
Again, to your point.
We will, I suspect, hit a crisis point. This might have been it. I dunno. But you're right. Quality control gets damned hard past a certain point.
