But yet, we value paper on the walls to validate our value. Pardon that sentence, but you get my meaning. The degrees and attaboys prove something. In today’s school system, they prove that I can take tests, not thrive, and contribute. We are creating a huge generation of automatons. Frightening. I learn more every time I spend a month overseas (I am in Indonesia now) than in four years of college. I have to think, and ideate, and survive, and make friends, and get out of trouble at times. That’s living. Schooling, as it’s designed, is proving our ability to please some administrator by taking tests, tests that give them scores that ensure that they stay employed. Wouldn’t it be interesting if teachers only got paid when kids succeeded in life? Like, wouldn’t it be cool if psychiatrists only got paid when we didn’t need them any more? Like, um, wouldn’t it be superb if doctors only got paid when we were vibrantly healthy?
Oh. My. What a world that would be.
