Bonnie,

Each of us reads this piece through a lens. I am applauding older women who chose a given path. You might be just as miffed had I pointed out older women who chose to run endurance races. The point wasn’t the body building. The point was that anyone at any age can start doing something barring severe disabilities. Nothing skewed the intent, because my intention was perfectly clear. I am celebrating folks who don’t let their ages determine their quality of life. As for cliches, no, Bonnie. To that:

Cliche: phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought.

That we are among the fattest, most unhealthy, poorly-fed people on earth underscores this. We have a horrible healthcare system that is grossly overpriced, while we as citizens are averse to doing the simplest of self care.

Not a cliche at all.

Arguing the basics, which work, not gimmicks, which do not, isn’t a cliche, Bonnie. It’s a genuine shame we have to keep pointing out that the simplest actions pay off the most. I write extensively on this topic largely because folks clearly do not get the message.
